Bytemark To Provide Mobile Ticketing Solution for Metrolinx’s Union Pearson Express
In 2015, Bytemark’s technology will enable Toronto passengers to use smartphones as tickets.NEW YORK & TORONTO - November 6, 2014 - Bytemark, a pioneer in mobile ticketing for transit, today announced that Metrolinx, Toronto’s regional public transportation provider, has selected the company to develop a mobile ticketing solution for its upcoming rail service, Union Pearson Express. In addition to a free mobile app, which will give UP Express riders the ability to buy and store rail tickets on their smartphones, Bytemark’s solution will support ticket sales both online and onboard.Bytemark will power the print-at-home ticketing through the UP Express website at launch of service, with the mobile app to follow in late 2015. After downloading the free app to their smartphone, riders will be able to purchase e-tickets that generate custom 2D barcodes and can be stored on their phone. Conductors will be able to sell, print and validate tickets onboard using the 120+ handheld devices Bytemark will deploy.
