Bytemark Expands Payment Options for Transit Passengers

Toronto, Ontario: Bytemark, a market leader in ticketing for public transit, has announced the release of new functionality for riders of York Region Transit. Passengers can now use Google Pay or Apple Pay when purchasing tickets or passes in the YRT Pay app. As part of the Passage mobile ticketing suite, York Region Transit gives passengers the power to select their form of payment from a secure mobile wallet of choice.

By providing passengers with a unified method for scheduling, selecting, and paying for mobile tickets, Bytemark continues to simplify the process of taking public transportation. This is further scaled in Canada through their partnership with Moneris Solutions Corporation.

Moneris, Canada’s largest provider of cutting-edge commerce solutions, accepts payments in a variety of ways for open loop and digital transit ticketing applications. They provide riders with an additional contactless payment option through Passage, a Bytemark Bridge suite. Transit agencies can provide additional payment options for riders who do not have credit cards or prefer to pay in cash through participating Interac banks and credit unions.

“Having the convenience of using Apple Pay or Google Pay wallets within our app gives their riders more convenience along with an extra frictionless and secure way to ride,” says John Pagliaro, Executive Director, Canada at Bytemark. “With this launch, we are now able to offer riders the ability to use their Interac card for clients of participating financial institutions with Apple Pay.”

This represents another investment opportunity in Bytemark Bridge, their Plan, Book & Pay platform, by allowing passengers the option of utilizing their digital wallet to pay for rides. Google Pay and Apple Pay can be used for in-app transactions thanks to this new feature. With Interac Debit, it also offers Canadian passengers another method of payment. Specifically for Apple users, riders have an additional payment option when they board their bus or train. Riders from participating financial institutions will be able to choose Interac as their form of payment.

Empowering riders to make the right choice for them when it comes to payment further reduces the friction for the passenger experience. With this new functionality now available in the YRT Pay app, riders with cards for participating Interac banks, have more ways to pay for transit.

With this launch, we are now able to offer riders the ability to use their Interac card for clients of participating financial institutions with Apple Pay.
